Calgary Patriots Shine Across Three Meets in a Thrilling Weekend of Racing

This past weekend, all Calgary Patriots squads were in action, delivering outstanding performances and showcasing the hard work put in at practice. Our swimmers competed at three different meets: the White squads at the Winter Invitational hosted by the Cochrane Comets, the Grey, Black, and Red squads at Maverick Madness hosted by the Okotoks Mavericks, and the Bronze, Silver, and Gold squads at the John Timmermans Memorial meet hosted by the Nose Creek Swim Association. The results were nothing short of spectacular, with record-breaking swims, new qualifiers, and numerous personal bests!

Winter Invitational

At the Winter Invitational hosted by the Cochrane Comets, the Patriots had 19 participants who achieved an impressive 71 personal best times. The team also secured 15 podium finishes, including two gold, eight silver, and five bronze medals. Medal winners included Owen Percival with five medals, Lincoln Giroux and Benjamin Timmins with three each, Emma Burger and Maggie Janz with one each, as well as Cameron Middleton and Lucas Percival, who also claimed one medal apiece. The White squad showed incredible determination, and we commend all swimmers for their efforts and continued progress.

Maverick Madness

Maverick Madness, hosted by the Okotoks Mavericks, saw 66 Patriots swimmers in action, delivering an outstanding 251 personal best performances. The team brought home 52 podium finishes, including 21 gold, 16 silver, and 15 bronze medals. Two club records were broken during the meet. Audrey Thompson set a new mark in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:28.45, while the 11-12 girls relay team of Isla Curtis, Elise Dechant, Stella Pasalic, and Kira Barber shattered the previous record in the 200m freestyle relay with a time of 1:58.21. The list of medal winners was extensive, with Kira Barber, Isla Curtis, and Audrey Thompson each earning five medals. Emiko Wong secured four, Jaden Lee, Stella Pasalic, Desmond Phillips, Aria Warwick, and Evan Ying each took home three, while Elise Dechant, Dylan Lee, Rhilynn McKibbon, Sophia Rippe, and Everett White-Oneil each claimed two. Ivan Dehtiarov, Josie Johnson, Ria Veronica Mangubat, Evelyn McKee, Casper Nimmon, Miia Sikorska, and Clara Stringer each added one medal to the Patriots' impressive haul. Audrey Thompson and Kira Barber also outlasted their competition to win their respective eliminator events. Several swimmers achieved new qualifying standards, with Isla Curtis qualifying for Champs in the 100m fly, Jaden Lee earning Champs times in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, Madden Murray achieving Trials times in the 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke, and Gabrielle Nichols qualifying for Trials in the 100m and 200m backstroke as well as the 200m breaststroke.

John Timmermans Memorial Meet

The John Timmermans Memorial Meet, hosted by the Nose Creek Swim Association, was a fantastic showcase of talent, featuring swimmers from our Bronze, Silver, and Gold squads. With 44 athletes competing, we celebrated an impressive 129 personal best times and an outstanding 75 podium finishes—28 gold, 24 silver, and 23 bronze.

Leading the medal charge, Logan Krauss, Silas Kwok, and Jocelin Zhu each brought home an impressive five medals. Close behind, Ulan Abbadi-MacIntosh, Maya Gruszka, Megan Sauder, Zack Schwanke, and Charlie Serra all reached the podium four times.

Other standout performances included Lily Avery, Gabrielle Engels, Erika Robinson, Leah Thompson, Ege Tutkuner, and Ava Virag, who each earned three medals, while Justin Astridge, Kaia Grinde, Aiden Katelnikoff, Peyton Les, Saul Radakovic, Christopher Vaage, and Luca Young all secured two medals. Rounding out our medal count, Tomas Arroyo Olivera, Ellie Green, Aliya Haggarty, Amara Harris, Conrad Kadatz, Sophia Kwok, Ava McDonald, and Jameson Young proudly reached the podium as well.

Beyond the medals, three swimmers achieved new Swim Alberta qualifying standards; Justin Astridge (champs – 200m back), Sonia Kwok (Trials – 50m free), Jocelin Zhu (Champs – 50m back, 200m back).

What a phenomenal weekend of swimming! From smashing personal bests to breaking club records, our athletes continue to push their limits and set new milestones. We are incredibly proud of the dedication and sportsmanship displayed by all swimmers.
