Edmonton Open Summary
The podium count: 9
We hauled in nine medals at the Kinsmen Sport Centre. It was an early long course meet for the seniors, which usually means the pool feels twice as long as it did last week. Jade Boake and Samuel Bygrave handled the transition well; they both climbed the top step to bring home gold medals in the butterfly.
A very crowded record board
Several swimmers decided the existing club records were more like suggestions. Emily Pegg (17) and Hudson Blough (16) both claimed the #1 all-time spots in their respective breaststroke events. William Cameron (15) and Noa Josh Burger (13) also jumped to the top of the list in the 50 Fly. In total, the team moved 18 different times into the all-time club top three.
The qualification hunt
A large group of swimmers spent the weekend securing spots for Westerns and Championships. Leah Thompson, Spencer Bratton, and Willa Shortt all hit new qualifying times while moving up the club rankings. Federico Martino and Hailey Cameron both snagged medals and top 10 recognition awards. Zack Schwanke, Scarlett Herget, and Aaron Macdonald also rewrote the all-time top 10 lists for their age groups. Sebastian Cristancho and Maya Storck rounded out a busy weekend by grabbing medals and fresh time standards.
The Bottom Line
It is officially long course season, so start prepping your kitchen for significantly more pasta.
