Pugsley’s Plunge 2025: A Record-Breaking Weekend!

This past weekend, the Calgary Patriots proudly hosted the 19th Edition of Pugsley’s Plunge at the MNP Sports Centre. The event welcomed 600 swimmers from 15 swim clubs across Alberta and British Columbia, making it a truly memorable competition.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the officials and volunteers, whose dedication makes events like this possible. A special shoutout to our exceptional Meet Management Team, Rikki Hanley and Erin Cameron, our Officials Coordinators, Sherri Gibbons and Rebeca Broadley, and our Team Administrator, Tara Gilmour. Their hard work behind the scenes ensured a smooth and successful meet. Next time you see them around the pool, be sure to thank them!

The racing this weekend was phenomenal, with 192 Patriots swimmers delivering outstanding performances. Together, they achieved an impressive 631 personal best times and claimed 262 podium finishes—including 100 gold, 80 silver, and 82 bronze medals.

Highlights of the Weekend include:

  • Club Records Smashed!
    • Will Cameron set new records in the 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke, and 50m butterfly.
    • Audrey Thompson raised the bar in the 400m individual medley breaking the old mark by over 10 seconds.
  • First Festival Times Achieved!
    • Josie Johnson earned her first festival time in the 50m breaststroke.
    • Esme Hockey achieved hers in the 50m butterfly.
  • Puggles Award Winners
    • Darek Rutkowski: Went 6-for-6 with personal bests and incredible time improvements.
    • Emiko Wong: Delivered stellar performances on Saturday, earning personal bests and first-place finishes in the 200m IM and 100m freestyle.
    • Audrey Thompson: Broke the 400m IM club record by over 10 seconds.

This weekend showcased the incredible growth and determination of our swimmers, setting an exciting tone for the 2025 season. Congratulations to everyone who competed—you’ve made your club proud!
