On March 30th, 2025, the unimaginable happened. The Blough Family received a call with news that their 15 year old son, Hudson, had a terrible accident while skiing with his friends in Banff.

Hudson collided with a tree on the hill and suffered a traumatic brain injury and broken jaw. His friends quickly called for help and emergency protocol was initiated. Hudson was rushed down the hill by ski patrol and taken by STARS air ambulance to the Foothills hospital in critical, life-threatening condition.

The ICU medical team had to act quickly to prevent any further injury to his brain. Fighting against aggressive swelling and bleeding, it was imperative that they gave his brain the best chance to heal, meaning Hudson was placed into a medically induced coma.

In the weeks following the accident, the Blough’s have been living a reality no parent or family should have to go through. Hudson’s loving parents, Matt and Abby, have stayed by his bedside day and night. While Hudson’s body was silently fighting to recover, his family was praying for a miracle.

During the third week since the accident, Hudson made great strides toward recovery. While he remains in the hospital, the life supports that had been keeping him alive are beginning to be reduced or removed, and his brain and body heal a little bit each day.

The road to recovery will be long and challenging for Hudson and his family. While his health continues to improve, recovery from a traumatic brain injury cannot be rushed and must be slow and careful. There are still many uncertainties in his recovery that will be better understood in time.

Matt, Abby, Lily & Hudson are a caring, generous family with a passion for supporting the communities in which they live and work. They never hesitate to offer a helping hand to their friends, family or anyone in need.  Please consider donating.
