Spring Tsunami Summary
May 15, 2026
A Meet Well Spent at Seton
The squad split up for the weekend. While the White and Grey groups headed to Cochrane, the rest of the age group crew descended on Seton to take on the Spring Tsunami. The result: a solid afternoon of racing that produced some genuinely impressive debuts on the provincial standards ladder, and a few new names on the all-time club records list.
First Steps on the Provincial Map
The highlight of the meet was a cluster of first-ever provincial qualifying times. 11-year-old Yeonu Kim had herself a career-defining afternoon, locking in her first-ever Festival cuts in the 200 Free, 200 IM, *and* 50 Back in a single meet. 12-year-old Nathan Yungwirth swept through his breaststroke events, and in doing so posted his very first-ever Trials cut in the 200 Breast. 13-year-old Sophie Burger also hit her first-ever Trials standard in the 200 Breast. These three swimmers unlocked something new this weekend; their parents, meanwhile, unlocked a brand new meet schedule to organize.
Showing up to Work
Thomas Tait came to Seton with a plan and executed it flawlessly. The 12-year-old swept gold in the 200 IM, 100 Fly, and 200 Free, added a silver in the 100 Free, and picked up bronze in the 50 Back — five medals across five events. He also set a new Trials standard in the 200 Free and quietly slipped his name into the all-time top 10 club records list with a #10 rank in the 100 Fly. Josie Johnson rounded out the podium crowd with five medals of her own — 2 golds, 2 silvers, and a bronze. Tian Ren Shi also had a productive day, taking gold in the 200 Back and 50 Fly and adding two silvers.
Cracking the All-Time List
Four swimmers joined the club's all-time top 10 rankings this weekend. 11-year-old Dylan Lee moved into #9 all-time in the 50 Breast. Maddyn Rushfeldt cracked #10 in the 100 Back, backed up by her new Trials standard in that same event. Nolan Curtis slid into #9 in the 200 IM. And 12-year-old Thomas Tait logged his #10 in the 100 Fly.
Time Well Dropped
A few swimmers came to Seton with old times and left without them. Alexander Chew dismantled his 200 Free for an 8.0% improvement, the kind of drop that makes coaches nod slowly and say "yep, that's what training does." Danielle Dhadwal carved 6.4% out of her 50 Fly, Ronia Sarmadi knocked 5.6% off her 200 Free, and Henry Stringer trimmed 5.0% from his 200 Breast. All four cleared the 4% threshold where parents are allowed to upgrade from polite applause to full-on screaming.
The Bottom Line
New provincial doors opened, new names on the all-time list, and significantly lighter personal best times as we move towards the end of the season.
