Meet Summary
Small team, big impact in Grande Prairie
Traveling north to Grande Prairie meant sending a smaller squad than usual this year. But while the Patriots cohort was small with only eleven swimmers, their performance was outstanding. Every swimmer did the club proud, reaching new standards, setting new personal bests, and adding their names to the club records.
Sophia Rippe leads the medal haul
Sophia Rippe had a spectacular weekend, winning six individual medals. The 11-year-old took gold in the 50 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle, silver in the 100 IM, 50 Butterfly, and 200 Freestyle, and bronze in the 100 Freestyle. Her 200 Freestyle time of 2:24.52 also moved her up to #2 all-time in club history.
Ria Veronica Mangubat earns her first trials cut
A significant milestone was reached by Ria Veronica Mangubat, who earned her first-ever Provincial Trials time standard in the 100 Breaststroke. Achieving this first standard means she now qualifies to compete at MNP later this month. The dam now broken, she quickly followed that up by hitting Trials standards in the 50 and 200 Breaststroke.
Backstroke standouts
We also saw fast swims on the backstroke side. Maddyn Rushfeldt won silver in both the 50 and 100 Backstroke, adding four new times to the club's all-time top-10 list. Everett White-O'Neil took bronze in the 50 Backstroke, climbing to #8 in the club records.
Clean sheets and major improvements
Four Patriots finished the meet with a clean sheet, meaning they dropped time in every single race. Lucas Chee went nine-for-nine with a 3.8% average drop, including a 5.7% drop in his 200 Backstroke. Tian Ren Shi also dropped time in all nine of his races, averaging a 4.0% improvement. Ria Veronica Mangubat (seven-for-seven) and Maddyn Rushfeldt (six-for-six) kept their sheets clean as well.
In individual improvements, the Middleton siblings really shone, with Cameron Middleton dropping 14.9% in the 100 Breaststroke, and Courtney Middleton dropping 11.9% in the 100 IM.
Relays claim top-three club times
Our 11-and-under girls relay teams put together outstanding performances. The team of Maddyn Rushfeldt, Samantha Campbell, Ria Veronica Mangubat, and Sophia Rippe claimed the #3 spot in club history for both the 4x50 Freestyle relay (2:12.56) and the 4x50 Medley relay (2:28.48).
And finally
Despite the long travel distance and a smaller squad, our young swimmers made a phenominal showing.
