Swim Alberta’s 2025 Newcomer Grant: Supporting Young Swimmers New to Canada

February 16, 2025

Swim Alberta is supporting young athletes with the 2025 Newcomer Grant, an initiative designed to help age-group swimmers who have recently immigrated to Canada. This grant aims to remove financial barriers and provide opportunities for newcomers to participate in competitive swimming with a Swim Alberta-affiliated club.

What Does the Grant Offer?

Swim Alberta is awarding four grants of $1,000 each to eligible swimmers. These funds can help cover costs such as equipment, translator support, club fees, competition fees, and travel costs associated with competitions, ensuring that financial constraints don’t hold back talented young athletes from thriving in the sport.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, swimmers must:
✔️ Be recently immigrated to Canada (priority 1 between January 1, 2023 to January 1, 2025; priority 2 January 2021 and January 2025)
✔️ Be registered with a Swim Alberta-affiliated club

Why This Matters

Swimming is more than just a sport—it builds confidence, fosters community, and provides incredible opportunities for personal growth. For newcomers to Canada, joining a swim club can be an excellent way to make new friends, stay active, and integrate into their new community. This grant is a step towards making swimming more accessible to all.
