Welcome Coach Ray - Performance Squad Coach
As we continue to strengthen our athlete development pathway, we are pleased to welcome Ray Betuzzi as the Calgary Patriots' Performance Squad Coach, effective September 1.
Ray brings 15 years of high-performance coaching experience, including more than a decade with the University of Calgary Dinos varsity swim program, where he most recently served as Senior Assistant Coach. Throughout his coaching career, he has helped develop athletes from the provincial level through to U SPORTS and Canadian National Team success. Previously, Ray coached the International Training Group at the University of Calgary Swim Club.
Prior to his coaching career, Ray was a Canadian National Team swimmer from 2004 to 2011, representing Canada at the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships. He also competed in the NCAA Division I ranks at the University of Minnesota, where he served as captain of the men's swim team.
In addition to his role as Performance Coach, Ray will be committed to supporting coaches and athletes across all squad levels. His fundamentals-first philosophy aligns with the Calgary Patriots’ commitment to long-term athlete development, ensuring swimmers at every stage continue to build strong technical foundations, develop the skills needed to reach their individual goals, and maintain their love of the sport. Ray will work alongside our squad coaches on deck, leveraging his experience to provide mentorship, collaboration, and coach development opportunities that strengthen the experience for all athletes and coaches across the Club.
